Truck Expo

Recently the NZ Trucking Association (NTA) visited Levels Raceway in Timaru.  This programme enabled school children to learn how to interact safely and responsibly with heavy traffic on our roads in an immersive learning environment. This is the first time South Canterbury Road Safety was able to bring the truck to our region and it was great to see a variety of schools and community groups participate.

The NTA Road Safety Truck was launched in 2017. Since its inception, over 40,000 people have gone through the trucks's Education Engagement Programme (EEP) and experienced interactive presentations, virtual reality technology, multimedia resources and other hands-on activities tailored to a variety of age groups. Research shows that students retain more information through active learning.

Another highlight of the Road Safety Expo was the opportunity for individuals to be a passenger and ride around the race track in a curtain sider, milk tanker or even a fire engine.

Based on the positive feedback from attendees,  plans are already underway to bring the truck back to our region in 2025 and support students from Mackenzie and Waimate Districts to attend.

The South Canterbury Road Safety team would like to thank industry partners who supported the event including Hilton Haulage, Temuka Group and Fire and Emergency New Zealand.
