This offer is only for permanent residents in the Timaru-, Waimate- and Mackenzie districts (South Canterbury Region).
Applicants cannot claim for the cost of the application or the actual driving test.
Applicant contributes $30 per lesson, South Canterbury Road Safety could assist with subsidising the cost up to $45 per lesson.
We can only assist with two lessons per applicant while funds are available.
- Getting a driver licence is a huge privilege. It opens doors to employment and personal mobility, but it comes with responsibility as well.
- We want to help people who are serious about getting a drivers licence, but may not have the resources to access driving lessons with a professional driving instructor.
- We know that people who were trained by a registered driving instructor are more likely to pass the test at their fist attempt.
- There are conditions for getting this subsidy.

We know that people who are trained by a registered driving instructor are more likely to pass the test at their fist attempt.
The Automobile Association (AA) offers their members free driving lessons, therefore this offer is only available to applicants who do not qualify for the AA offer.
This offer is only for permanent residents in the Timaru-, Waimate- and Mackenzie districts (South Canterbury Region).

We will only consider assistance for driving lessons by a registered driving instructor whose business is registered in the South Canterbury Region.
