Learn to Drive Resources

Drive is a free website and online learning tool to help young people become safe, skilled and licensed drivers.

Developed by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and ACC, Drive is designed to help people who need to learn how to drive. Drive is full of helpful tools, recommended lesson plans, videos and content that will make learning the road rules and learning to drive easy and fun for both young drivers and their coaches.

To get ready for your learner licence, sign up to the Drive website to learn the road code, unlock theory practice tests and prepare for your learner licence test.

To prepare for your restricted or full licence practical tests, download the Drive Go mobile app to practice the skills and track your progress.

Driver Licensing

The AA Centre at 26 Church Street, Timaru administers driver licence applications and renewals, learner licence theory tests, overseas conversions, endorsements, and International Driving Permits. Phone: 03 688 4189.

Other Support Agencies

Literacy Aotearoa Timaru (corner of Grey Road and Arthur Sts, Timaru) offer support for driver education - learner licencing support for citizens and permanent residents aged 16 and over. Phone: 03 688 0894.

Age Concern South Canterbury offer Staying Safe road code refresher courses to seniors, periodic mobility scooter user workshops and have advice on other transport options for seniors when driving may no longer be possible. Contact:  03 687 7581 or freephone 0800 65 2 105.
